Let The Madness Begin!!
Freshmen are still struggling to open their lockers, seniors haven't got senioritis yet (mostly), and teachers are just starting to grade those all-important first homework assignments of the year. There's a bustling about the school, a certain positive energy that we can feel in the theatre room every morning before classes. This is a great time of year when everyone has hopes and plans and we can feel the power of those dreams pushing us forward. Some of those ideas may be far-fetched; some might look as silly to others as a knight tilting at a windmill, but the shear strength of those ambitions can't be bottled. This year's musical, Man of La Mancha, reminds us of the power of those impossible dreams. They can give us hope, dignity, a sense of purpose. They can also make us a little bit crazy. School is like that at times, too. In the coming weeks and months, when daylight practically disappears, homework becomes a dragon of its own, and rehearsals take up our lives, let's not forget the strange, positive madness of these first few weeks. School and theatre and family may try to drive us over the edge, but we are all, every one of us, knights in shining armor and golden helmets, ready to save each other and pursue our dreams.
